What's "The Centurion"?
The Centurion is a musical play, written by Peter Tassi and John Cope, which has often been performed to sold out audiences in Canada, the United States, Australia, and Portugal. It is the gripping and profound story of the Apostle Saint Paul.
This creative implementation of the historical occurrences follows through important events St. Paul's life. In the early years following the death of Jesus, St. Paul devoted himself to capturing and punishing Christians. Later however, Paul experienced a miraculous transformation on the road to Damascus, in what is modern day Syria. This spiritual conversion alienated Paul from his lifelong associates, represented in The Centurion by his friend Anthony.
The musical play examines:
- Paul's work and the difficulties he had with the other apostles
- the stoning of Saint Steven
- the important work of Mary
- the first church council
- Paul's evangelizing work throughout the Greek world
- and lastly, his death in Rome
